Ryuichi Sakamoto performs in NY for Japan
Composer-musician Ryuichi Sakamoto performed in a concert in New York on Saturday to benefit the areas devastated by the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.
Sakamoto played piano pieces, including a requiem for those who died in the disaster and a piece with elements from Japanese Noh plays. Concluding the performance, he played a song titled "Smile" composed by Charles Chaplin, along with violinist Anne Akiko Meyers.
On Friday, Sakamoto said he wants to bring his music to the people in the devastated areas when they have room for music in their hearts.
In New York, a series of charity concerts has raised funds for organizations which help people affected by the disaster and assist in the rebuilding effort.
