Heartburn

A few weeks ago, my friend was confined in a hospital for a day due to heartburn. I did not know what heartburn means so I researched about it. Despite its name, heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart. It is so called because of a burning sensation of the breastbone where the heart is located although some heart problems do have a similar sensation to heartburn. Heart burn according to wikipedia is is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus, just below the breastbone usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Initially, I thought what happened to my friend was severe since the word "heartburn" is kinda scary. After talking to him, I learned that it was not really a big deal. It was a big deal to him though since the doctor strongly ordered him to stay away from citrus, drinks that contain caffeine, sweets and of course fat. I felt sorry for him a bit since these were the things he loved the most. He loves his health more so he just followed the doctor's orders without hesitation. I hope I don't end up like him.
